Quit Convincing People to Hire You

I get a version of the same question almost every week. An agent will ask me, in the Lab or in our group, "what do I say to get them to pick me?" Different words, same worry. They're hunting for the perfect line. The phrase that finally tips a hesitant prospect into a yes.

And I get it. We were all trained to believe the deal is won in the room, with the right script and enough conviction.

But here's what I keep noticing. The agents who never seem to be convincing anyone are the ones with the fullest pipelines. They aren't better talkers. They're playing a completely different game.

Because here's the part most agents miss. Buyers and sellers don't shop around nearly as much as we assume. Most of them have already decided who they want before they ever pick up the phone. They aren't running a bake-off and choosing the smoothest pitch. They're calling the name they already trust.

So the real question was never "what do I say to convince them." It's "how do I become the one they were always going to call."

That's the whole idea behind a "Shut Up And Take My Money" business. The selling is already done before the conversation starts. People show up pre-sold, wallet basically out, because by the time they need you, you're the obvious choice and everyone else is a stranger.

And that doesn't come from charisma. It comes from a system quietly running in the background. Staying visible long after the closing, so past clients never forget your name. Showing up consistently in the places your people already are. Tending a database instead of ignoring a list. None of it is flashy. All of it compounds. The agent who is simply present, over and over, becomes the default... and the default never has to convince anyone of anything.
