Let’s be honest: most follow-up messages sound like they belong in a museum next to rotary phones and fax machines.
“Just checking in!”
“Following up on my last message…”
“Circling back!”

The problem? These tired lines don’t move the needle. They make you sound like every other agent who’s trying to hustle a deal. And in a crowded inbox, sameness is the kiss of death.
So let’s flip the script - literally!
Here’s how to craft follow-up messages that actually get responses, build relationships, and (let’s be real) make you the agent everyone remembers. (Flashback to the 5 minute texting exercise we did a coupe of weeks ago with Casey and the immediate results we got.)
🎯 1️⃣ Ditch the Boring Lines ~ Try These Instead
Forget “just checking in.” Here are five fresh follow-up scripts you can use to stand out and start real conversations:
✅ The “I Thought of You” Message
"Hey [Name], I just saw an article about [relevant topic—interest rates, local market trends, a cool app for homeowners, etc.], and it made me think of you! Hope you're doing well. Let me know if you want to chat about it."
✅ The “Value First” Ping
"Hi [Name], I found this tool that helps homeowners estimate renovation costs (or whatever resource fits your niche). Thought it might be helpful for you. Let me know if you’d like me to send it over!"
✅ The “Friendly Nudge”
"Hey [Name], I know life gets busy (my inbox is a mess too!). Just wanted to bump this up in case it got buried. Should we reconnect this week?"
✅ The “Quick Win” Ask
"Hey [Name], curious ~ if you had a magic wand and could solve one thing about your current home, what would it be? I’m working on some ideas for clients and would love your input."
✅ The “Light-Hearted Check-In”
"Hey [Name], not sure if I lost you to a tropical island getaway or just a crazy inbox (no judgment). Either way, I’d love to catch up when you’re free. Let me know!"
These aren’t just lines, they’re conversation starters. They make your follow-up feel like a human touch, not a sales pitch.
📞 2️⃣ How to Keep the Conversation Going
Okay, you’ve sent the message. Now what?
Here’s a simple 3-step flow for turning those follow-ups into actual conversations:
Step 1: Open With Curiosity
"Hey [Name], I’d love to learn more about what you’re hoping to do with your home. What’s your biggest question right now: selling, buying, or just staying put for a while?"
Step 2: Guide the Chat (Without Pressure)
"Great question! Let’s talk through what makes the most sense for you. Have you thought about [selling, refinancing, investing, etc.] as an option?"
Step 3: Close With a Call to Action
"Let’s map out a plan so you feel confident in your next steps. What time this week works for a quick 15-minute chat?"
📊 3️⃣ Build a Simple Follow-Up Funnel
You don’t need fancy tools to stay top of mind. Here’s a basic follow-up funnel you can start using today:
✅ Step 1: Create a Quick Follow-Up List
Your list = people who’ve ghosted you, past clients, leads who said “not right now.”
✅ Step 2: Send a Fresh Ping
Use one of the scripts above. Keep it light, friendly, and no-pressure.
✅ Step 3: Keep the Loop Open
If they don’t respond, follow up again 7-10 days later with a different message. Keep it human, not robotic.
✅ Step 4: Stay Consistent
Consistency > Perfection. One follow-up isn’t enough. Stay in their orbit.
